Hi, we are Kara and Shelby. 

We are Sisters-in-law living in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC.

My name is Shelby and I have three little girl bandits at home. I started making wood toys for my girls because I wanted something a little bit different and found the toys that I wanted for my kids and found online were expensive and come from other countries.

I don’t have anything against all the light-up noisy plastic toys, but I found my kids would be interested in those for a week, and then they sat in the corner for months. Loose parts and open-ended toys seem to be the winners for us and get played with every day in different ways, so I started to make my own wood toys combining the idea of a stacking puzzle and loose parts pretend play. Then came sensory kits. My kids have always loved sensory kits but they take alot of energy to plan and set up, so I curated our pre made kits to have on hand when we need a hero.

Kara is my Sister in law and she is our Monkey Mama with a boy and a girl monkey at home. Kara started making macrame when we both needed a solution for the piles and piles of bows and hair accessories our girls had, welcome the macrame bow holder! So much more than a bow holder with endless possibilities around the house. Kara started creating macrame pieces that are gorgeous decor pieces but could also be used around the house as a solution to the “kid clutter”

This shop is a labor of love for us, it was the thing that brought me back to the surface during my dark postpartum depression and gave me a creative outlet. It is creating an opportunity for Kara to stay home with her kids while helping to provide for her family. 

This shop reminds us that even though we are moms now, that is not our only title and we are still Shelby and Kara too.
